Microsoft wants to take on Symbian

"We work closely with Nokia and we would love to have them go all the way," he said. "It's something we talk about all the time." Says Microsoft's mobile communications business international marketing director John Starkweather as he confirmed reports that talks were taking place with Nokia but would not confirm when any announcement would be made. NASA may have just threatened the world

Does it worry you if NASA decided to send out the beetle's song to Polaris? What if aliens misinterpret and think that we are a world that wants to rule the universe, I mean what if the default translator in their most advanced technology doesn't do a decent job or isn't updated with the latest edition of Microsoft Encarta??? Well Dr Douglas Vakoch of the SETI Institute, which has been leading the search for extraterrestrials, told New Scientist magazine:...

Toshiba launches new upgrades to its Gigabeat range.

Some time ago Microsoft and Toshiba both had dreams of making the Gigabeat a rage. However we all know now that the Zune isn't a Toshiba product. Regardless Toshiba has furthered its product line up with enhancements to their Gigabeat U-, V-, and T-series of audio and video players. The V81 doubles the flash of its V41 to 8GB while tweaking the 1Seg recording capabilities priced at around ¥34,800 (about $327). The U407 and U408 are just 4GB updates...

Wii closing many arcades says Namco

Officials from Namco Bandai have announced that the company has been forced to cut its full year profit forecast by 38 percent to ¥16.5 billion ($155.4m), blaming the success of the Wii for continued problems with its arcade business. The company has revealed that it is to close between 50 and 60 of its amusement arcades because of declining profits, roughly 20 percent of its total operations. Although the arcade business has been in decline for decades worldwide Namco...

HARV-Panoramic view of enemy turf

In the field when confronting enemy fire a soldier must have the ability to quickly asses a situation and execute remote operations with ease. The task of a Bot operator is not as easy as it seems. It's not like playing a video game where we have the ability of multi angle views or enemy radar. The most recent development is whats called as the three-axis Head Aimed remote viewer. Currently operators must swerve the bot from side to side...

IBM wants to make the entire web into an application.

It's not everyday when IBM decides to work on something big & boy when they think big they mean big. It's no easy task when they decide to make the entire internet into an application. This mega system relies on a re-tooled version of IBM's Blue Gene supercomputers so loved by the high performance computing crowd. IBM's researchers have proposed tweaking the Blue Gene systems to run today's most popular web applications such as Linux, Apache, MySQL and Ruby...

Sharon

Posted:

Dror Moreh's docu about Ariel Sharon is clearly a television program lacking the flair and ambition of feature documentaries.

Black Ice

Posted:

The film has its characters slipping and sliding all over an icy psychological landscape in a twisted thriller about marital infidelity, manipulation and betrayal.

The Song of Sparrows

Posted:

Majid Majidi reverts to a plain country setting in his latest film, a metaphor-driven tale of moral decline and redemption. The story moves smoothly through the standard tropes of Iranian art house cinema.

Le premier venu (Just Anybody)

Posted:

In a brilliant use of space, the characters move in desolated landscapes and the director's taste for garish camera movements as an expression of the characters' inner torments skillfully balance the theatrical impression.

Gardens of the Night

Posted:

Harris spent years researching and writing his script, and it shows. The small details feel right, leaving us to accept the utter horror of the larger details.

Elegy

Posted:

Penelope Cruz's performance deserves to be seen widely, but the story's pretensions and downbeat mood will not endear the film to audiences.

What the Heart Craves

Izumi Takahashi gets extraordinary dramatic mileage out of a hate-triangle of ex- and current lovers/roommates and their entanglement with other characters.
