Blackberry 9000 caught in the wild

Engadget got hold of a Blackberry 9000 and they were in awe of the slick new user interface. The 9000 features both WiFi and HSDPA On closer inspection, though, we find that the phone is leaving a very positive second impression. The phone's lines seem flow really well (dare we call a BlackBerry "sexy"?) without losing its purpose-suited stance exuded by the 8300s, 8700s, and 8800s of yore. The real kicker, though, might be the beautiful user interface, which...

Elephant Paparazzi - Camera attached to Jumbo's trunk captures amazing Jungle Pics

US Navy to soon contract 10,000 watt laser gun

For decades, scientists have been slowly working on a laser that never runs out of shots -- and can be "tuned" to blast through the air, at just the right wavelength. For most of that time, all they could get was a laser at lightbulb-strength. But in 2004, researchers at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility finally managed to assemble a "Free Electron Laser," or FEL, that could generate 10,000 watts of power. The Navy has started an effort...

Japan invests $300,000 to fly paper planes in space

Japanese are very passionate about origami. So much so that they are now sending some specially built paper planes in space to do some serious research. Why would they do such a thing? Well a successful flight from space by an origami plane could have far-reaching implications for the design of re-entry vehicles or space probes for upper atmospheric exploration. In a test outside Tokyo in early February, a prototype about 2.8 inches long and 2 inches wide survived...
